A cold air intake not only simplifies the route the air takes to reach the engine, it also increases the volume of air. Another benefit of the cold air intake, and the reason for its name is that it isolates the air filter from the engine, lowering the overall temperature of the air coming in your 2016 Acura ILX 2.4L.
The AEM 21-784C system replaces the stock air box and air tube with a new intake in the original location. A specialized heatshield keeps the oversized AEM Dryflow air filter isolated form the engine's heat. Cooler air is denser and that density means an increase in oxygen. It is the oxygen that mixes with the fuel and burns, causing combustion and all the fun stuff when you're accelerating.
The Acura ILX is a sporty little sedan that features an 8-speed transmission utilizing Acura's Dual Clutch Technology (DCT) system. The DCT system was born in Honda's racing efforts and quickly found its way into all levels of automotive, as well as motorcycle and ATVs. It has proven to be a very efficient way to transfer power, allowing smaller engines to feel much bigger. In stock form the ILX is rated at 201 horsepower. The estimated horsepower gain from the AEM intake is an additional 15 horsepower.
